What a fantastic place! Our week here has flown past far too quickly, but we’ve fitted in all the birds and places we wanted to see – all superb. However, the special ingredient has been the hospitality of our hosts – thank you very much. Barry and David Bradnum April 2008 Great place, superb food (and wine) but above all charming hosts. Martin surprised us every day with delicious meals and interesting spots to find many different birds. We are looking forward to the next visit. Ben MacDonald January 2008 A really excellent few days…… Good variety of species seen but it was the quantities that will live long in the memory: fields full of cranes….mixed flocks of Little and Great Bustards...and amazing flocks of Calandra Lark, Spanish Sparrows and various finches - 400 Serins in one flock! But perhaps most of all we shall remember walking one of the Los Lagares loops on a crisp, clear sunny morning – the density of common birds was extraordinary. 300 + Blackcaps in 6 km, plus so many other birds (a Wryneck the icing on the cake). A superb location with superb birding. The house and accommodation was first class, many thanks for the excellent meals. The birding was out of this world, we were all amazed with Martin’s outstanding guidance. Everything we hoped to see was at hand and showed well. We all had an absolutely brilliant time, everything was perfect. The birds were great and the hospitality was superb. Martin was spot on with his locations for the birds and saved us loads of time. A fantastic holiday (six persons) and we are sorry it has to end. Thank you both for all your help and great hospitality. Great birding and wonderful nature watching. A wonderful week’s birding – thanks to some superb info – everywhere Martin told us – there were the birds!! Bustards and sandgrouse the obvious classic Extremadura highlight! Thank you for your hospitality – all will be recommended. You have create such a wonderful atmosphere that we thoroughly enjoyed sharing. Thank you Martin, Claudia, Patrick for the entertainment) and of course Moro for the stones. Warm hospitality and first class birding with every target species found. This is usually a reason for not returning, but not in the case of El Recuerdo! Thanks for being so friendly and attentive. Once again a perfect place to stay when exploring Extremadura. Had a wonderful two week’s holiday with Martin and Claudia and would love to come back again. Claudia and Martin’s cooking was fantastic and Martin’s knowledge of the birds and surrounding area was invaluable. A dream holiday! We had high expectations having looked forward to this for so long, but even those expectations were exceeded! The welcome, the hospitality, being made part of the family: all wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble; in fact, on the contrary, Martin has a proprietorial pride in making sure that we have the best possible birding experience. The advice is fantastic and astonishingly reliable. The cooking is delicious, innovative and interesting. Our thanks also to Patrick for the entertainment he has provided both during and after the meals. We are already looking forward to returning. Excellent 4/5 day stay away from the good old British winter weather. Highlights were four Imperial eagles, 60+ Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, two Bluethroats, many Great and Little Bustard, two Great Spotted Cuckoos and a good supporting cast. Many thanks Martin and Claudia for looking after us so well and your excellent hospitality. Thank you for being so kind and considerate – the wheelchair was no encumbrance to Martin’s carefully chosen bird spots and Claudia the room was perfect (and the food!). A lovely place to stay, very tranquil – visits to Trujillo and Guadalupe were wonderful. The house is lovely, the hosts most helpful and the dog Moro a delight to throw stones for! Altogether a very enjoyable week. PS Pitarra wine very drinkable! Four days, four eagles and a wonderful time to boot(ed!). The knowledge we have gained from Martin enabled us to see close to a hundred bird species and was only exceeded by his hospitality…cracking place to stay too. Thanks. Thank you for a wonderful stay. The accommodation and surroundings are just beautiful; the food and your expertise invaluable. Enjoyed meeting Patrick and Moro too! A magic experience and can’t wait to come back. Thanks Martin and Claudia. We knew it would be nice – but not this nice! Congratulations on putting together the best guesthouse ever! The level of professionalism is really amazing, especially as it is so obviously natural and sincere. The ambience is just right. And the feeling of being at home is lovely. Thanks for all the info to see so many great birds. Many thanks for an excellent break. Birding with Martin was excellent and the hospitality so friendly. Thanks for a wonderful five day break in brilliant Extremadura. Birding in winter is fantastic – flocks of cranes, great and little bustards, both sandgrouse, loads of raptors and much more. Big surprise were three sightings of otters fishing in rivers catching fish and crayfish. Terrific. A wonderful welcome and two great luxuries, first the splendid house and excellent food. Secondly the precise, timesaving advice on routes to follow and spots to visit. Many thanks for a fantastic break – where else could we see hoopoes, hawfinches and azure-winged magpies from the kitchen window? Four days of blue skies , marvellous birdwatching – a never-to-be forgotten experience. Many thanks for five bird-filled, fun-filled days. Great birding in Monfragüe and the plains and – even better- a warm welcome, good food and great accommodation. Casa Rural El Recuerdo is a great find. A place where you can hear Golden Oriole, Bee-eater, Hoopoe, Scops Owl and Red-necked Nightjar – without even getting out of bed, cannot be bad! Added to this, the help and hospitality of Claudia and Martin makes for a superb and restful trip. Very many thanks. We had a wonderful time. Thanks Claudia and Martin. The place, food and services were excellent. Birding tips were just amazingly accurate.
