Run by birders for birders in one of Europe's best birdwatching areas. |

Just two and half hours from Madrid airport, you will find yourself in the heart of Extremadura. It is one of the last remaining areas unchanged for generations in Western Europe, endowed with some of the continent's best birding. Thanks to traditional land use practice and an impressive diversity of habitats, you can see an extraordinary variety of birds. Important for the conservation of breeding populations of species like Black Vulture, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Great and Little Bustard, Black Stork and wintering concentrations of Common Crane, an incredible richness of raptors, and excellent for sought after species like Bonelli's Eagle, Black-winged Kite, Purple Swamphen, Pin-tailed and Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Red-necked Nightjar, Black Wheatear, Azure-winged Magpie…as well as other typical Iberian species. It is no wonder that this unspoilt area of Spain draws birders from around the world, a place which enthrals and people return to again and again. One can add to the birds, the butterflies, flowers and other wildlife, the wonderfully evocative scenery, magnificent medieval towns, pre-Roman and Roman sites, good accessibility and a hearty rural cuisine. Combined these are the ingredients for a successful and memorable holiday. |

You will feel at home, relaxing in the sitting room with its library and bird prints; having a meal in the dining room, where once wine was made; or resting in the individually decorated en-suite bedrooms. All bedrooms have heating and air-conditioning. The hillsides around the house have old olive groves and are a wonderful place to explore. Indeed, just from the garden itself we have recorded over 110 different species of birds. We use our own organic olive oil for preparing evening meals which are based as much as possible on local produce, including our own organic vegetables, accompanied by the highly appreciated village wine. Homemade bread is served at breakfast. |
